On the visit of Saakashvili to the Vikings
During the recent visit of the Georgian president to Norway, at first glance all the ceremonial attributes were followed by the host country at the highest level. However, the overall picture of his stay in Oslo turned out to be spoilt by the quite unexpected sentiments of the local social circles, addressed to the person of the Tbilisi guest: it is generally known that immediately after the August events in South Ossetia in the Scandinavian countries, and in Norway itself, the pro-Georgian moods were quite apparent.
What happened in this case was quite the opposite - a group of eminent Norwegian public figures announced their intention to contact the police demanding the arrest of Saakashvili on charges of committing war crimes during the South Ossetian conflict. Unflattering comments were also addressed to the official Oslo «for the too warm a reception for the man, who has stained himself with the blood of innocent civilians».
The leadership of the Norwegian branch of the «Amnesty International» called on the Government to point during the negotiations with Saakashvili at his responsibility for the «serious human rights abuses, unacceptable cruelty, violation of the international humanitarian law, shelling of civilian targets in South Ossetia».
Apparently, in the world public opinion is increasingly consolidating the understanding that in the face of the current Georgian president they have not a civilized statesman, but a proponent of resolving any disputes firstly from the position of power. If in due time the Vikings achieved great success in their campaigns, in the XXI century the same argument has long exhausted itself.
