Two holidays
Vladikavkaz
Alikhan DZIRAYEV
Communists finally fraternized with Democrats

Two holidays took place in Vladikavkaz and other settlements of North Ossetia with three days’ interval - on 4 and 7 November. One is a new, the other is old. One - the state, the other - "popular". The old one was more like "a red day on the calendar", than a new one: on the 4th of November, for example, urban newsstands were open, but on the 7th they were closed. On the 7th a number of commercial stalls were closed without explanation in broad daylight, but on the 4th - "businessmen" sweated like proletarians. Well, such a fact: on the 7th in the offices of well-established firms their owners and co-sponsors organized corporate parties with champagne and red caviar. Curiously, for what reason? Besides red caviar, the businessmen have nothing red...
On November 7 in the capital of North Ossetia-A for the first time in recent years was a long column of protesters - more than a thousand people. A colorful procession, reminiscent of "Soviet" times, was attended by all district units of the Communist Party. One was struck by a huge number of young people who went into the streets under the slogan "we are twenty". Among the multitude of flags, one was particularly dear to participants of the holiday: the flag with the image of Stalin. In Khrushchev's campaign of "exposing the cult of personality", when all the "Stalinist" relics were destroyed, this flag was preserved. A few days ago, it was solemnly handed to the young communists, and they were entrusted with taking care of it.
An interesting detail: the ideological orientation did not prevent the communists from celebrating a new holiday: not only on the 7th, but on November 4, everywhere one could behold the men with red ribbons in their buttonholes and the Soviet decorations on their chest. Communists listened to the two-hour free concert on the cold November air to the cold vodka, and even did not scold the current regime. On the other hand, the bourgeois-democratic "counter-revolutionaries" drank a bit with pleasure on November 7.
The expected "unity" so much talked about by Russia's rulers, has come true.
