In Brest will appear a street bearing the name of one of the Chechens, killed in defense of the legendary fortress.
According to the Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic Dikalu Muzakayev, tentative agreement on this was reached during the visit of the Chechen delegation to the Republic of Belarus, where they had a meeting with the chairman of Brest City Executive Committee Alexander Palyshenkov.
«Widely known is the fact of participation of more than 300 of our countrymen in defense of the fortress, but the names of only three of them have been perpetuated: Zayndi Masayev, Magomed Uzuyev and Ayndi Lalayev. A street in Brest will bear the name of one of them», - Dmitry Muzakayev said.
In addition, in one of the city squares there will be a memorial plaque with the names of the Chechen soldiers.
Muzakayev expressed confidence that in future the deeds of all the Chechens who were defending the Brest garrison would be immortalized. «It is important to show the world that the Chechens, along with other peoples of the Soviet Union, took an active part in defending their country from the fascist invaders. In fact, it is known for certain that participation of the Chechens and the Ingush in the defense of Brest and the fortress with the same name was withheld for a long time, because they were deported and declared public enemies», - Muzakayev said.
