«Why did they kill my boy, what for? My son Azamat has never done anything wrong to anyone». The eyes of the mother open wide, with tears of sorrow and pain, were turned to us, journalists.
We came to the house of Fatima and Mukhamed Nagoyevs in Dugulubgey village (KBR), to meet the family of the Captain of Militia Azamat Nagoyev, who was killed in May last year by raging bandits. From the only reminiscence about them Fatima Khizirovna is trembling. Not holding back her emotions, she says: «Who do they think they are to take the law into their hands? They call themselves believers, but kill people cold-bloodedly not for faith - for big money. Where do the terrorists take money from, who is supplying them with money? And how many parents ask their children: where do they get such money from? It’s better to stop the guys in time, than go through the bitterness of loss and shame for the crimes of the deceived sons later».
Azamat's father is listening attentively to the words of his wife with a severe face. The death of his son shocked him, he was down with an illness and his hearing became worse. Azamat was growing a good boy. Respectful of his father and mother. He was helping his parents, as he could. Treated the elders with distinction. Since he was seven he took up karate. Achieved significant rewards in competitions of various levels.
Azamat chose his profession by himself, as he dreamed of it since childhood. He studied at the Leningrad school of militia, later received his higher education in the Saratov Institute. Together with his brother Murat, he was honestly performing his duty. In 2009, he was to be assigned the rank of a Major. Azamat was in his twenty-eighth year when he was killed – treacherously, in the back.
«Azamat visited us often. We were always pleased at his arrival, - Fatima Khizirovna remembers. - Jovial, cheerful, he was raising our spirits with his good laughter. He never forgot to visit his grandmother. Usually he was coming up to her, embracing, and asking: if she is healthy, well fed there. We all rejoiced at his success in work». And adds bitterly: «God forbid that the mothers would ever go through what I did. We managed to defeat the fascists during the war, and should stop the terrorists now».
Azamat and his sister Zhanna were growing up together. They were twins. Zhanna remembers: «We were going to school together. My brother never let anyone offend me. He was always the leader, very just, but could not tolerate when people were telling lies. Azamat never forgave that even to his friends. He studied well, was fond of history and geography. Already being an adult, he kindly treated my children».
The trouble occurred on May 24, 2008. It was Saturday. Azamat came to the house of his parents from Pyatigorsk. Having resting after his journey, he went to visit his friend Boris Balkizov. «They were standing at the gates, talking, - Zhanna tells. – A car stopped nearby. Two men got out of it. Before he had time to look round, the terrorists opened fire at Azamat with two submachine guns...»
Zhanna’s story is interrupted by the father of Azamat: «Eleven bullets hit my son».
The place was busy - a shop, a cafe. The tragedy was unfolding in the eyes of dozens of villagers. But what could they do, seeing as armed bandits after shooting their fellow-villagers were impudently jostling the dead in front of them all. Only one woman started shouting, but seeing machine guns pointed at her, lost herself in her yard.
«We were the last to know about the tragedy that befell us that day, - Fatima Khizirovna remembers. – The father’s sister Aminat was the first of our family to see the dead. She lives near the hospital where Azamat and Boris were taken». On that fatal day, the terrible news dropped a bombshell on the entire family of Nagoyevs. The tragedy turned out a great sorrow for the relatives of Boris Balkizov, who had no relation to the militia bodies.
Shortly before the death of Azamat he had a conversation with his mother on his marriage. Azamat agreed with her, was making plans for the future, was going to buy an apartment in Nalchik. Now it is all in the past.
But, as we were told by Azamat’s relatives, his killers got their deserts. One of them, Sufyan Zhemukhov, was liquidated during an anti-terrorist operation. In his car were found the documents and the gun of Azamat Nagoyev. |
